MST3K Characters Made a Cameo Appearance on The Simpsons

The familiar silhouettes of Crow T. Robot, Tom Servo and either Joel or Mike from Mystery Science Theater 3000 showed up in an episode of The Simpsons. The episode, Bart’s New Friend (Season 26, Episode 11), was based on a spec script written by Judd Apatow back in 1990.

In the scene, Bart and Homer Simpson go on a ride at Itchy & Scratchy Land called Soarin’ Over Springfield which simulates the show’s opening credits. The stars of MST3K can be seen in the bottom right corner sitting a few seats away from Homer and Bart.

This actually isn’t the first time The Simpsons have thrown in an MST3K easter egg. If you look closely you can see Joel/Mike and the bots on the TV at Moe’s Tavern in Who Shot Mr. Burns? (Part 1) from 1995.
